Leo R Voss

Athens Leo R. Voss, a 94 year old World War II Veteran of Athens, passed away on Veteran's Day, Sunday, November 11, 2012 at Heartland of Battle Creek. Leo was born December 11, 1917 in Papineau Twp, IL to George and Elsie (Springer) Voss. He was in the U.S. Army from May 2, 1942 until November 30, 1945. On January 18, 1947 he was united in marriage to Dorothy (Miller) in Athens, MI. Leo was employed by Kellogg's for 38 years, retiring in 1979 . Leo was a member of the Kellogg 25 year club and a life member of the Athens V.F.W Post 5319. He was the past District 7 Commander from 1968-1969. Leo enjoyed golfing, playing cards and spending winters in Florida. He played fast pitched softball for many years in Athens. He is survived by his wife, Dorothy of 65 years, 3 sons, James (Linda) Voss of Versailles, KY, Larry (Shireen) Voss of Athens, MI, Roland Voss of Athens, 1 daughter, Cindy (Tom) Case of Union City, 9 grandchildren, 11 great grandchildren and 1 great-great grandchild. He was preceded in by his parents, 3 brothers, Arnold, Earl and Harvey, 1 sister Laurena Seivert and a Grandson Jerry Voss. Visitation: 4:00 p.m. – 7:00 pm. Wednesday, November 14, 2012 at the Spencer Family Funeral Home in Athens, MI. Military Funeral: 12' noon Thursday, November 15, 2012 at Spencer's with Pastor David Mackaluso officiating. Burial with full military honors by the Athens V.F.W.Post 5319 at Burr Oak Cemetery, Athens, MI. In Lieu of flowers the family requests that the memorial donations may be made to Athens Community Foundation or the Athens V.F.W. Post 5319.
