Notes from Journal of Nelson Huff in the possession of Caroline Sylvia Clouse Flynn.

This family came to Kentucky from Virginia around 1810. Leonard was born in either Virginia or North Carolina in the late 1700's. He married Hannah Boling in North Carolina in either 1807 or 1808.

Their children were: John H. 1809 - 1897, Sarah 1810 - 1851, Elizabeth 1812 - 1876, Nancy 1813 - , Rachael 1816 - 1900, Daniel 1821 - 1895, Nancy 1825 - 1913, Sarah 1825 - , Sarah 1825 - , Lucy J. 1827 - 1876, Pleasant 1833 - 1894

From Broken Shoestrings by Lester Huff: Leonard grew up on his father's farm in Wilkes County. In 1807 he took a job with the Reverend Jesse Boling, working on his farm. It was there that he met Jesse's daughter Hanna, marrying her that year and moving into her room.

Notes, attribution unknown:

  • Samuel Huff Sr. [b.1750 d.1820] and Sarah Hix[b.1755 d.1800], daughter of John Hix. Samuel Sr.'s parents were Peter Huff & Mary Toney. Any info after that I do not know.

Samuel Sr's last son was Leonard Huff who married Nancy unknown. This is probably the Leonard Huff you have heard about.

Notes for LEONARD HUFF: Leonard served in the War of 1812 from JACKSON County TN in Capt. James Hollman's Co.,Col. J. K. Wynne's Regt., of the West TN Militia. He moved to Butler Co. KY , About 1844 with several family members and neighbors.
