About Leopold Ungar
Leopold Ungar was a member of the Demokratische Verein and took part with his father Anselm in the failed attack on the weapons store in Siegberg. He was put on trial at the Royal Court in Cologne in 1851 for sedition, together with 12 others, some of whom had already fled abroad. He was acquitted, but had previously spent several months in prison. Subsequently he left Germany and voyaged to San Francisco. He led a varied and adventurous life before settling down in London.
