Lester E. Shepler, 68, Anderson, went home to be with the Lord April 11, 1998, at his residence.
He was born June 15, 1929, in Sullivan County and lived in this area most o his life. He retired from construction work in 1991. He was a member of the Operating Engineer Local 103 for 40 years, life member of the AMVETS and a past board member of the Anderson Equestrian Club. He served in World War II with the 82nd Airborne Division.
He is survived by his wife, Betty J. (Jones) Shepler. They recently celebrated their 50th anniversary. They were married on Nov. I, 1947. Also surviving are four children, William D. and wife Sylvia (Smith) Shepler of Fishers, Vickie J. (Shepler) and husband Russell Hiatt Jr. of Anderson, Lester E “Spike” and wife Lori (Goen) Shepler Jr. of Lafayette, and Sharel A. (Shepler) and husband Ralph Marcum of Anderson; three brothers, Freddie Shepler Jr. of Paxton, John Shepler of New Lebanon and Jim Shepler of Paxton; two sisters, Mildred (Shepler) Cox of Graysville and Dorothy (Shepler) Sparks of Merriam; 10 grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Freddie an Anna Hortence (Ridge) Shepler Sr.; two sisters, Katherine Shepler and Fred (Shepler) Hayhurst; and a brother, Paul Shepler.
Services will be 1 a.m. Tuesday at Brown-Butz-Diedring Funeral Home, with the Rev. Ed Purciful officiating. Burial will be in Anderson Memorial Park Cemetery.
Visitation will be 4 to 8 p.m. today at the funeral home.
Memorial contributions may be made to the hospice of St. John’s Health System.
