KINMUNDY - Lewis T. "Lewie" O'DELL, 76, of Kinmundy, formerly of Galesburg, died at 7:55 a.m. Friday, June 25, 2010, at St. Anthony Memorial Hospital in Effingham.
He was born Aug. 28, 1933, in Hillsboro, son of Lewis J.T. and Ruby (WILSON) O'DELL. He married Helen BASSETT on Sept. 4, 1956, in Kinmundy, and she survives in Kinmundy.
In addition to his wife of 53 years, Mr. O'DELL is survived by two sons, Les O'DELL and wife Christine of Carbondale and Cary O'DELL of Culpeper, Va.; two grandchildren, Grant and Sarah O'DELL, both of Carbondale; a brother, Kent O'DELL and wife Rena of Kinmundy; two sisters, Kathleen O'DELL of shiloh and Marilyn BLACK of Carbondale; and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
Mr. O'DELL was a 1959 graduate from Southern Illinois University of Carbondale with a degree in Agricultural Economics. He worked for the U.S. Department of Agriculture's Rural Development agency for 37 years in Effingham, Marshall and Galesburg. Mr. O'DELL operated a farm north of Kinmundy. He was active in the Angel Food Project. Mr. O'DELL was a veteran of the U.S. Army, having served during the Korean Conflict. He was a member of First United Methodist Church.
Services will be held at 11 a.m. Monday at Rogers-Atkins Funeral Home in Salem with Duane AMBROSE officiating. Interment will follow at Sandy Branch Cemetery in Kinmundy.
Friends may call from 3 to 5 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home.
Memorials may be made to Kinmundy-Alma EMTs or to Sandy Branch Cemetery.
