About Lewis Sanford Lee
Lewis Lee was an early settler of Ballard, Co., Kentucky, arriving about 1833. His father was a soilder in the Revolutionary War. Lewis Lee had two brothers in the war of 1812, both participating in the Battle of New Orleans. In 1855 Lewis Lee commenced riding as deputy sheriff. In 1858 he was appointed to fill an unexpired term due to the death of the sheriff. He was subsequently elected sheriff for two terms, serving during the time of the Civil War. He farmed, and his farm grew to the size of 330 acres. (1865). He was a member of the Baptist Church and cast his first presidential vote for General Andrew Jackson.
