Louis was born out-of-wedlock to Andrew Fleming and Evaline Mitchell (sister of Andrew's wife, Priscilla Ann Mitchell) . Louis was a farmer in Iroquois County, Illinois. He married Leah Zumwalt; one of nine known children born to Joseph Zumwalt and his first wife, Elizabeth A. Mendenhall. Leah passed away on July 23, 1879. Louis and Leah had five known children; two sons and three daughters. On September 20, 1926 Louis was admitted to the County Poor Farm. He was old, feeble and in poor health. Louis died of old age. His body was removed for burial in Vennum Cemetery.
