His parents were; Zeley Reno and Mary Lela Chinn.

Christened at Silas Run Baptist Church, Bourbon Co., KY on 28 September 1811. Baptism record mentions his wife Polly. .

He was probably born between 1775 and 1780 and married before 1801 since he had a son and two daughters born before 1804, but his marriage record from Harrison Co. has him marrying Polly Shropshire in 1813,
