About Lewis Richards
One of the old and familiar names of Union County which has always been honored by every one who bore it is that of Thomas Richards. He founded a family that may not be very large but for quiet steady business habits and material benefit to the county it is as important a family as any in the county. The father of our subject was Lewis Richards who came to what is now Webster County from Virginia in 1800. He purchased a farm three miles north of Providence of a Mr giving exchange likely negro girls. He moved to what has since been known as the "Richards Farm" near Boxville sometime previous to 1820. Lewis Richards was a soldier of the Revolution under General Clark and married Lucy Hunton in the vicinity of Chesapeake Bay Virginia. He died on the farm in 1845 or 1846.
