Lien Nortman (1942 - 2014)

Brief overview:

Lien (72), and her husband Hendrik Frederik (74), were brutally beaten and tortured in their home, at Langenhoven Street, Vanderbijlpark, on 9th January 2014, when a gang of seven males invaded their house. Hendrik was hacked to death and died at the scene. His body was found lying outside the house near the gate.

Lien was tied up, with a cable tie around her neck, beaten and gang-raped. She was found in a serious condition in their bedroom.

At 19h00 the Netcare paramedics climbed over the fence into the yard, and the SAPS members and the couple's son broke open the gate to gain access. The paramedics of Medicare had to cut off the cable-tie from around Lien's neck. She was taken to Sebokeng Hospital, from where her son had her transported to a private medical care facility. Lien died from her injuries on 19th January 2014.
