Lieutenant William Thomas Dent-Young

2/Lieutenant William Thomas Dent-Young. Joined 11th Battalion AIF in August 1914. Wounded in Gallipoli (twice), transferred to Somme and promoted 2/L in August 1916. Killed by shellfire on 11th May 1917 during the second Battle of Bullecourt, aged 29. Buried in Norreuil.

'LIEUTENANT THOMAS DENT-YOUNG, Australian Infantry, who was killed on May 5, aged 25 years, was the second son of Mr. Jules Dent-Young, C.E., and Mrs. Dent-Young, of. Bath. He was educated at Ampleforth College, Yorks, and being in Australia when vear broke out he enlisted in the Australian Infantry. After service in Egvpt he was. among the first troops who landed at V. Beach in Gallipoli on April 25, 1915, being wounded the same day. On recovery he returned to the Dardanelles, where he wias wounded again. He was subsequently sent to England. On rejoining his battalion he went to another front in the spring of 1916, and saw much fighting. He was given a commission and received his second star a few weeks later. His youngest brother fell at Gounmecourt on July 1, 1916, while his eldest brother, Lieutenant John Dent-Young, 1st Nigerian Regiment, was wounded in East Africa last January. Another brother, Lieutenant Arthur Dent-Young is at the front with the Machine Gun Corps.
