About Llewelyn ap Owain, Prince of Powys

Father certain (at least as far as given name goes), mother uncertain. Believed to have been got on Nest verch Rhys, then the wife of Gerald of Windsor, while Owain ap Cadwgan had her in captivity.

He did not have a brother named Einion.

Ancientwalesstudies.org thinks he is either Fictional or misidentified - possibly a son of Owain ap Trahearn. http://www.ancientwalesstudies.org/id159.html (The descendants of Trahearn had a bad case of fratricide, and every single one was either killed or blinded by 1132. Llywelyn ab Owain ap Trahearn needed a seeing-eye dog after 1130, assuming he survived the "operation".)

The reason for blinding someone was that it took him out of the succession - the ancient Welsh, like the ancient Irish, required physical perfection in their leaders. (The early Rurikids had something similar going on, with the twist that the blind man was generally clapped into a monastery to make sure of him.)
