Louis's birth name is unclear. There is a Polish birth record from 1914 for a Lejb Szejnfeld listing the birth year as 1900. The ship manifest when Louis came to the U.S. in 1920 says he was 21 years old and lists his name as Jossel. Sam's Petition for Naturalization in 1922 states: "Louis born Poland June 15 - 1905; Josef born Poland May -- 1900; Both residing with me." Louis's Declaration of Intention lists his name as Luis and his date of birth as June 18th 1899. The 1925 Census and 1930 Census also list a Louis, aged 18 and 23, respectively. Louis's death record in 1934 lists his age as 34 and his Birth Year (Estimated) as 1900.
My guess is that Louis's Hebrew name is Yosef Leib and that he was born around 1900. He was therefore called Josef and Louis, or variations thereof. Louis also had a brother Leizor Isaac (based on the ship manifest when Louis's mother Sara came to the U.S.) who was born between 1905-1907 and who was also called Louis, Leo or Leon.
