About Louis Lourens de Beer
Louis Lourens de Beer (Insp) (1956 - 2006)
Brief overview:
Louis (50), a police inspector of 32 years, based at the Diepkloof Vehicle Theft Unit in Soweto, was executed, shot once in the head, at his smallholding in Lanseria, on 11th September 2006.
Louis was preparing dinner, while his son, Lourens (15), watched television, when four armed males stormed the house. His son-in-law, Jacques Jonker, said "Louis screamed when the four men stormed into the house; he was probably trying to warn Lourens of the danger. One of the men pushed Lourens to the ground and shouted at him to keep his head down. One man stood at the door and the two others went to his father. One of them pointed a gun at his head which he pushed away. When he did so the other man shot him in the temple before fleeing."
Louis's wife Marie said they moved to the area 18 months prior after she was assaulted near their home in Florida, Johannesburg. "We moved here for safety. His (De Beer's) dream was to own a place where we could feel free and happy.
Area Commissioner Director Nic Sithole said the case was being investigated by a team of the Serious and Violent Crimes Unit. "We condemn the killing of police in the strongest terms."
Nothing was stolen.
