

Edwin H. Harman served in the Confederate Army during the American Civil War in the 45th Virginia Infantry Regiment. He was commissioned an officer on May 29, 1861 at Wytheville, VA and entered service as Captain of Company H. He was absent from his regiment, with leave, for the month of November, 1861, starting on the 7th. He was appointed Lieutenant Colonel on May 14, 1862 and transferred from Company H to the regimental headquarters. He was killed on May 9, 1864 at Dublin, VA during the Battle of Cloyd's Mountain.
The (currently named) city of Bluefield VA was, after the Civil War called "Harman" in honor of Edwin Harman's heroism at the Battle of Cloyd's Mountain. There is a back story to this naming of Pin Hook: The Harman family were county officials, surveyors, justice of the peace and such.. for several generations.
