About Lt.-Col. R.E. Colborne Jarvis

Robert Edward Colborne Jarvis was born March 4, 1842 in Toronto, Ontario, Canada, and died there on March 4, 1903--his 61st birthday.

A Lieutenant Colonel in the 67th Leinster Regiment, he was attached to the Staff College at Sandhurst. He served with the Red Cross Ambulance Corps throughout the Franco-Prussian War, and was awarded by the French government, in recognition of his services at that time, one of only two gold crosses made. He was also in Lord Robert’s staff throughout the Afghan War and took part in the celebrated but catastrophic march through the Khyber Pass.

He died unmarried.
