About Lt. John Brockway

John Brockway, 2nd child of William Brockway (of Brockway's Ferry) and Elizabeth Wolterton, was b. at Lyme, Conn., on May 10,1697; married there on Mar. 1, 1727, with (1) ELIZABETH BANNING, who was born about 1705. She died at Brockway's Ferry, in Lyme, on Apr. 26,1738, in her thirty-third year, and was buried there in the Brockway cemetery. He married (2nd), at Lyme, Conn., on Mar. 22,1739, with SARAH SCOVIL, of Saybrook, who was born about 1708. She died June 12,1770, in her sixty-second year, and was buried in the family cemetery at Brockway's Ferry. She was a large, resolute woman, and tradition says that her husband once went hunting, and on his return, without game, found that she had caught two deer on the smooth ice, cut their throats, and drawn them home. He married (3rd) with a WIDOW AVERY. He bore the military title of lieutenant. He died Nov. 27,1777, in the eighty-first year of his age, and was buried in the family cemetery at Brockway's Ferry. He also signed the paper, Dec. 7,1724, relating to ecclesiiastical matters in Lyme North Quarter.

Children with Elizabeth Banning: Elizabeth (1728), John (1729), Ebenezer (1731), Sarah (1734) and Mary (1738).

Note: Altho Brockway does not give a proper name to the widow Avery, John's 3rd wife, others have attached the name Abigail, widow of John Avery.
