About Lucinda E Swartzell

Mrs. Lucy Swartzel, the daughter of John and Elizabeth Sherrets, was born in New Cumberland, Ohio, March 14, 1847, and passed to the beyond at the home of her daughter, Mrs. H. F. Ball, in Winthrop, on Thursday, June 9, 1932, at the age of 85 years, two months and twenthy five days. When a young girl she came with her parents to Quasqueton, Iowa, the youngest of a family of twelve childern and the last to depart this life. On April 16, 1867, she was united in marriage to Franklin Swartzell at Quasqueton, where they made their home until Jan. 27, 1927, when on account of her husband dying in 1922, and where the deceased remained until her death. Two children were born to this union--Mrs. H. F. Ball, of Winthrop, and B. L. Swartzell, of Waterloo, who, with nine grandchildren, twenty-three great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild , remain to mourn her loss. Mrs. Swartzell united with the Congregational church of Quasqueton over fifty years ago and transferred her membership to Winthrop on moving here. She was a faithful Christian woman, in pioneer days ministering to the sick and lending herself to do good. Her closing years in her daughter's home were bright with thoughtful and loving care. She lived in faith and died as she lived. Funeral services were held Saturday afternoon at 2 o'clock at the H. F. Ball home, Rev. Geo. Fowler being in charge. Burial was made in the Quesqueton cemetery. The pallbearers were nephews of the deceased--T. H. Manson, Jas. Manson, John Sherretts, Arley, Mel and Harley Ondler. Among those from out of town to attend the funeral were Mr. and Mrs. Spence Swartz and Mr. and Mrs. Chas. Manson, of Waterloo; Mr. and Mrs. Henry Helbig, of Cedar Rapids; Mr. and Mrs. Stewart Laid and Mr. and Mrs. Mel Ondler, of Walker; Mr and Mrs. Ira Ondler, of Coggon, besides many from Quasqueton and Independence.
