According to Orlin, Lucy Fay was born October 31, 1752. She married Capt. David Mathews of Colerain, son of James Mathews, who had been born March 2, 1747 in Merrimac, New Hampshire. "They were tall, good looking and wealthy. Had many tenants on their land, resided in Colrain." They had 12 children.

Lucy is burried at Grant Cemetery (c. 1829) is located close to County Route 8, between Harris Hill Road and New York State Route 176, opposite Granby Town Hall.

This cemetery is on the private property of Terry Jodway and Darlene Bartlett. The stones were read as they were found. When Lucy Fay was born on October 31, 1752, in Westborough, Massachusetts, her father, Captain Benjamin, was 40 and her mother, Martha, was 33. She married David Mathews on October 5, 1773, in Colrain, Massachusetts.

Before the American Revolution - Lucy and her husband, David, removed to Shaftsbury, outside Bennington, Vermont. Their dwelling was one of the closest homes to the Battle of Bennington.

During the Battle of Bennington, 16 August, 1777, Lucy nursed wounded soldiers in the Matthew's residence known as "The Red House," including Hessian Lt. Col. Friedrich Baum, and Tory Lt. Col. Pfiester, both of whom were shot through the body and soon died.

Lucy and David had eight children in 16 years. Lucy and David Matthews built "The Stateline House on the Vermont/New York border. She died on April 3, 1839, in Lysander, New York, where she had been living in her daughter's house - having lived a long life of 86 years. Lysander and Grandby are listed as about eight miles apart.
