In 1870 Lucy P. lived with her daughter Lucy Jane Read Putnam. In the Chronicle and Sentinel from 27 Aug. 1874 Lucy's obituary reads as follows: In Augusta, Georgia August 26th, Mrs. Lucy P. Read aged 75 years, 3 months and five days. the relative and friends of Miss Lucy J. Read, Silas C. Read, D.H. Denning, and family and Mrs. Mary Read and family are respectively invited to attend the funeral from St. John's (M.E.) Church, Friday, morning, August 28th at 9 1/2 o'clock. --Notes also state that she lived in Augusta, Georgia for 30 years. Lucy is listed in the 1850 Census for Richmond Co., Georgia.
