Wiggen's History of Aroostook page 133 'Luke Perry came from South Lincoln in 1840, went into partnership with Leonard Marsh and built a house on the site of the present home of Leroy Perry. Luke Perry was an old man when he came to Sherman. He died in 1850. the farm then passed to Levi Perry who cared for his father during his last years.' A History of Sherman, Maine by Mary Gilchrist.
Many genealogists have Seth and Mercy (Freeman) Perry as parents of Luke. It is most likely that this is true. The birth records of their children born in Barre are recorded in the Barre Town Records and Church Records. It is documented that they moved to Martha's Vineyard for many years, but I can find no written record of their children born there. The other concern I have is that Luke is not mentioned in his father's will. It is possible that there was a rift between them or he set off for Maine and never let his family know where he was. I am assuming they are his parents for now since so many others have been satisfied that they are, but I am still looking for the proof. At least I am sure they are related.Luke and his descendants also use the same names that are in Seth Perry's family, including some unusual ones. Sherry Brooks Perry
