About Lydia Ann Bailor

(Daughter of Elijah Mahlon) (Wife of John Bailor)

OBITUARY for LYDIA ANN MAHLON BAILOR

MRS LYDIA ANN BAILOR departed this life at her residence in Port Royal at 3:40 oclock on Friday afternoon, January 20, 1899, after one weeks illness, of pneumonia.

The deceased was born in Chester County, March 10, 1842, and was a daughter of the late Elijah Mahlon, and at the time of her demise was aged 56 years, 10 months and 10 days. On the 14th day of October 1864 she was married to John Bailor, who preceded her to the tomb less than two years ago.

This union was blessed with the following named children: Harry, Rush, Samuel, Mary E., Annie, married to S. R. Bashore; Clara, deceased; Maggie, married to George Casner, Frank and Charlie.

The following are the names of her brothers and sisters who survive her: Allen Mahlon, of Ohio; Taylor, of Clearfield; J.C., of Philadelphia; William, of McAlisterville; Mrs. Joseph Heeter, of Puxautawney, Mrs. Wesley Burley, of Altoona and Mrs. John Etter of Bellwood.

She was a most self-sacrificing and devoted mother, and planned and fought the battle of life heroically. In the relation of a parent she considered nothing too great to undertake for the welfare of her off spring, and in consequence her early departure for the home of the soul has caused her children to be plunged into the deepest sorrow.

The funeral services were held in the Lutheran Church, of which the deceased had long been a faithful and consistent member, at 2:30 oclock on Sunday afternoon, conducted by Rev. W. H. Fahs, of Mifflintown, whose remarks were highly appropriate to the solemn occasion. The large audience room was filled with relatives and sympathizing friends. The interment took place in Church Hill cemetery, where her body was tenderly laid to rest to await the resurrection morn and then come forth to eternal life.
