Lydia was the eldest child of Rev. Peppers Mahoney, Sr. and Mary Catherine Hunt Locklear. She married William Foster Thompson.
The following was taken from the Apr. 8, 1974 edition of THE ROBESONIAN:
Funeral for Mrs. Lydia Thompson, 77, who died Saturday in Southeastern Hospital will be conducted Tuesday at 4 p.m. in First Methodist Church by the Rev. J. J. Juren, the Rev. Robert Mangum and the Rev. James Fox. Burial will be in Lumbee Memorial Gardens Cemetery.
Surviving are a daughter, Mrs. Julian Martin of Southgate, Mich.; her sons, George Blake and Vernon Ray Thompson of Pembroke; her sisters, Mrs. Sanford Sampson, Mrs. Bessie Locklear and Mrs Zetta Loyd of Pembroke, Mrs. Jessie Brenkheimer of New Jersey and Mrs. Margaret Rogers of Philadelphia; her brothers, Dewey Locklear of Pembroke and Mahoney Locklear of Raeford; nine grandchildren.
The family will be at Revels Funeral Home tonight from six until nine o'clock.
