Lynne Ruth Pitts

Lynne's mother chose the first name simply because she liked it, but added the "e" to distinguish it for the much more common and then very popular name "Lynn". She chose "Ruth" as the maiden name in honor of Ruth Conroy, a great aunt to whom Lynne's father was very close.

The date that she moved to Manor Lane is approximate. Previous addresses are unknown. For an undetermined period between 1952 and 1955, her parents were separated, and Lynne lived with her grandmother near Ronkonkoma, Long Island.

Lynne attended Bayshore High School in Bayshore, Long Island, NY. Lynne attended Plattsburgh State University in Plattsburgh, NY. She received her M.S.N. at the University of Utah

Lynne Ruth Travis married John Albert Pitts on October 4th, 1969. They had three daughters (Elizabeth Lynne, Meredith Noreen & Katharine Marie) who were/are the absolute joys of their lives. Besides being a devoted mother, she was able to mentor many nurses, patients & friends over the years. She always had time to listen. Lynne is remembered as being an amazing mother, wife and friend, with a heart of solid gold. She lives on in the hearts & minds of every single person that knew her. Until we all meet again......we love you Lynne!

Cause of death was cancer of the colon and liver. She was the fourth in the Travis ancestral line (father, grandfather, great-granfather) to die of a digestive system cancer. At the time of her death, her official residence was Quarters 17B, Fort Amador, Panama, but she was living with her mother in Delray Beach, Florida, while undergoing treatment.

At her request, her remains were cremated, and her husband and children spread the remains at the base of a tree near the Roaring Creek waterfall on the trail to Mt. Giant, near Keene Valley, New York. Lynne and John had met on a blind date that involved hiking (with another couple) to the top of Mt. Giant. The sun set before they descended, so they spent much of the night wending their way downhill in complete darkness. This experience bonded them.
