Notes for PHINEAS JOHNSON:

Phineas appears to have lived at one time at Paris, Oneida Co., NY where he purchased land Feb. 26th or 28th, 1797, being than called Paris. He later was member of a Military Co., there. Evidently he returned to Ct. as at asale of this land Jan.13, 1804 he was living in Berlin. He continued to reside there until 1819 when he went to Carlisle, Ohio where some of his relatives had already removed. He reached there Nov. 5, 1819. He was Justice of the Peace and kept an Inn. In 1830 he opened a hotel at La Porte. About 1833 he and his son William H. removed to Kishawaukee, Winnebago Co., Ill. His grave was leveled and secreted to prevent Indians from finding it.
