Mabel L. Mitts, 91, a long time resident of Adams County died Tuesday, January 29, 2002 at 8:45 am in Blessing Hospital.

Mabel L Mitts | Hansen-Spear Funeral Home – Quincy, IllinoisShe was born March 18, 1910 in Pike County, Illinois, the daughter of Samuel Charles and Lucy Schmalshof Gallaher. On March 23, 1932, she married Leo Francis Mitts in Payson, Illinois. He preceded her in death on July 27, 1967.

She was employed doing defense work during WWII, and she held various jobs in the Quincy Area including babysitting. She was a member of Lighthouse Baptist Church in Quincy and was a Charter Member of Bible Baptist Church.

Survivors include 2 sons, Leo J. Mitts and his wife Barbara, Quincy; Thomas J. Mitts and his wife Paula, Maywood, MO; 2 daughters, Shirley Hayner and Sarah Mitts, both of Quincy; a brother, Ed Gallaher, Payson; four sisters, Alvie Whitaker and Anna Bradley, both of Quincy; Pauline Whan, Lewistown, MO, and Mary Fischer and her husband John, Quincy; 5 grandchildren, 9 great grandchildren and one great great grandchild, several nieces and nephews. She also was preceded in death by her parents, and 5 brothers Charles, Russel, John, Wilbert and Kenneth. Graveside Services will be 11:00 am Friday, February 1, at the Kingston Cemetery, Rev. Dale Briggs officiating. Burial in Kingston Cemetery, Kingston, Illinois. The family will receive friends from 9 am – 10:30 am Friday at the Hansen-Spear Funeral Home. Memorial contributions may be made to Lighthouse Baptist Church.
