One horse was killed by a bear.One wa s killed when a tree fell on the stable. One sank in a marsh. One was lost in a pasture. As well, a cow and some heifers were lost . According to witnesses w ho testified at an 1812 " ting". As a result of their misfortune, it was neces ssary for the family to borrow 133 rikdalers ( 532) Kroner from Assessor Haagen Mathiessen in 1813, using personal property as security. In 1833 his son Ma ds took over the farm, which he operated until 1856.
