About Magdalena Mary Proctor

From entry for James Proctor, information collected by Jen Bawden:

James was born in VA on 04 Mar 1774. He died in Rockcastle Co., KY on 14 Aug 1858. According to some recent found circuit rider's papers, they were married in Albermarle Co., VA on 20 Jun 1799.

Thanks to Reba Long Parker (the lady I inquired about last night), I now have information on their 15 children. Up until her sending copies of a old family bible, there was no proof about these, nor the fact that James possibly married another woman after Magdalena's death. According to misread headstone and 1850 census data, it had appeared that James had married a young lady of about 11 years of age.

According to the family bible, Magdalena Brenneman was born 28 Aug 1780 and died 11 Jan 1840 in Rockcastle Co., KY

Their 15 children were:

  • Fanny who was born 10 Jun 1800
  • David B. who was born 05 Oct 1801
  • George who was born 13 May 1803
  • Joel who was born 10 Mar 1805
  • Elizabeth who was born 25 Feb 1807
  • William who was born 01 Jan 1809
  • James who was born 02 Mar 1811
  • John who was born 09 Mar 1813
  • Bradford J. who was born 04 Jul 1815
  • Anderson Granville who was born 29 Aug 1817 (my ancestor)
  • Sidney who was born 08 Dec 1819
  • Elisha who was born 08 Dec 1819
  • Susannah who was born 25 Jun 1822
  • Willis Green who was born 26 Jun 1826 (also seen in subsequent records as Willis/William Henry Green)
  • Alford who was born 01 Feb 1828 (also seen in subsequent records as Alfred)

Those who appear to have survived to adulthood are David, George, Elizabeth, James, John, Anderson, Sidney, Elisha, Willis, and Alfred.

James and Magdalena (who is also seen as Mary) was both buried on top of a hill that now overlooks I-75 just outside Mt. Vernon, KY. Joel was buried there as well.

Note: Birth and Death of Magdalene vary per source. Family bible lists birth as 1780 and death as 1740. I chose to use theses date due to birth dates of children and 1850 census does not show her in Proctor's household.
