Funeral services for Fred Habrel, 79, Neillsville, were held Tuesday afternoon from the Bergemann Funeral home. Mr. Habrel died Saturday in Memorial Hospital following a long illness. The Rev. Lloyd Mauer of the Methodist Church, officiated. Burial was made in the Merrillan (Oakwood) Cemetery.
Fred George Habrel was born December 25, in La Crosse and when a young boy his parents moved to Cataract. He received his education in La Crosse and Cataract.
He worked for many years in the woods before moving to Merrillan, where he was employed in a coal shed of the railroad. He had been a resident of Neillsville for 16 years and was an employee of the Nelson Muffler Corporation until his retirement 11 years ago.
On September 4, 1936, he was married to Mrs. Margaret (Boofer) Schultz in Black River Falls.
He is survived by his wife; a daughter, Mrs. Glenn (Eva) Lezotte, Neillsville; and the following step-children: Mrs. Harold (Thelma) Noah, Nora Springs, Ia.; Mrs. Mildred (Bert) Field, Rudd, Ia.; Mrs. Louise Ehlers, Marshfield; Mrs. Lee (Elsie) Kapfer, Rockford, Ill.; Mrs. Margaret Hanby, Black River Falls; and Mrs. Gladys Quinn, Milwaukee. Two grandchildren, seven great-grandchildren, and several step-grandchildren also survive, as do the following brothers and sisters: Ralph Haberl, Cataract; Mrs. Ray (Ruth) Greeno, Cataract; and Mrs. Ervin (Esther) Hopp, Minneapolis, Minn.
Pallbearers were: Harry Carl, Arthur Haugen, Jake Fitzmaurice, Edward Lezotte, Rudolph Opelt and Ed Silkey. "In the Garden" and "The Old Rugged Cross" were sung by Mrs. Helen C. smith, accompanied by Mrs. James A. Musil.
