The son of Eleazer Lindsley, Samuel Lindsley was a native of Morristown, New Jersey. He served as a private in the 4th New Jersey Infantry during the Revolutionary War, and on September 11, 1777, just five days after his 17th birthday, he was wounded at the Battle of Brandywine in Pennsylvania. The young American patriot, who lived to see the triumph of the cause he fought for, went on to live for another 27 years. In time he married Lois Bradley, and died at the age of 44 in 1805.
