Makgabo (4), was murdered during a home invasion on 8th March 2006
Makgabo Bernice Matlala's body was discovered under the base of a bed in her parents' home in Lenasia, southern Johannesburg, at 11.45am on Thursday by forensic and crime scene police. This happened nearly 24 hours after the child - the daughter of Springs magistrate Stephen Matlala - was feared kidnapped after a robbery in which three men gang-raped her 57-year-old nanny and ransacked the house. Police took a man in for questioning on Thursday afternoon in connection with the murder. They had received information that he was somehow involved with the killers, but the nature of the connection has as had not yet been determined. Based on the nanny's statement, police were looking for at least three assailants.
The post mortem on Transvaal Judge President Bernard Ngoepe's four-year-old granddaughter was completed on Friday morning, police said. Gauteng police spokesperson senior superintendent Mary Martins-Engelbrecht said: "The results were complete this morning. We are not going to make them known because they will be used in court as evidence."
