Gertrudis Estefana Longoria (b. Abt. 1735, d. Abt. 1817)

Gertrudis Estefana Longoria

  • (daughter of Cpt. Juan Diego Longoria Garcia and Maria Chapa Baez Benavidez) was born Abt. 1735 in Seville Spain (sic), and
  • died Abt. 1817 in Rancho La Bonita near Camargo Mexico.
  • She married (1) Tomas De Olivares on Abt. 1758 in Camargo Mexico,
    • son of Blas De Olivares and Maria Ramona Escandon.
  • She married (2) Miguel Lopez De Jaen on Abt. 1758 in Camargo Mexico.

Gertrudis Longoria was married to Miguel Lopez De Jaen before she married Tomas De Olivares. Their marriage record can be found on www.familysearch.org Batch Number 0760051. Miguel Lopez De Jaen was born in Seville Spain as was Gertrudis Longoria (sic). They came to New Spain in late 1746 to acquire land from the King of Spain.

They migrated from El Nuevo Reino De Leon with the Jose Escandon Expedition under the command of Captain Blas Maria de La Garza, and were originators of the town of Nuestra Senora de Santa Ana de Camargo. Today, this town is just called Camargo Mexico, and it is just across the border from Rio Grande City (RGC) Texas.

Gertrudis and her first husband Miguel Lopez De Jaen can be found in the 1750 Census for Camargo which lists all the families that were original settlers of Camargo.Miguel Lopez de Jaen died between 1750 and 1757 since in the 1757 Census, Gertrudis is listed as a widow.

Shortly after 1757, she met Don Tomas de Olivares and married him.

Ben M. Angel notes: There are problems with the assertion that Gertrudis was born in Spain. Her parents' families, for instance, were long settled in New Spain, and no documented journey has been identified in any record. Nonetheless, the two births in Sevilla (presuming she did in fact give birth at ages 10 and 11) would indicate that their mother came from Andalucia. (Also noted, there is no definite information on her first husband Miguel's birth location.)

For the time being, I'm going on the idea that she was born in New Spain, and that Miguel was born on the Peninsula, and that the Spanish births (all of which carry only the father's apellido) were probably from an earlier marriage.
