About Maredudd ab Ieuan, Of Dolwyddelan and Gwydir

son of : Evan Ap Robert & Catherine Ap Rhys. Established Gwydir estate upon which his great grandson Sir John Wynn built Gwydir Castle.

From his English Wikipedia page:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Maredudd_ap_Ifan

Maredudd ab Ifan (sometimes called Meredith ab Ieuan) was the Head of the House of Aberffraw following the death of his father. It is not known if he had any siblings. He rebuilt Gwydyr Castle after it was destroyed in the 1460s and made it the family home. He is cited by Sir John Wynn, 1st Baronet as one of his ancestors and head of the family at that time.

Head of the House of Aberffraw 1469–1525

  • Preceded by Ifan ap Robert
  • Succeeded by John "Wynn" ap Maredudd

From his grandson John's entry in the Dictionary of the National Biography:

http://en.wikisource.org/wiki/Wynn,_John_(DNB00)

The first to settle at Gwydir was Meredith, to whose sons the surname of Gwyn or Wynn (Anglicè White) appears to have been first commonly attached, presumably because of their fair complexions.
