Margaret was born say 1610 in England and died, perhaps in Braintree (now Quincy), Massachusetts Bay Colony, after the Inventory dated Aug. 27, 1669 of her husband Samuel Allen's estate.

She is often referred to as "Margaret French" but there is no support for this maiden name.

  1. The will of Samuel Allen of Braintree is dated Aug. 2, 1669 and proved Sept. 16 1669 and recorded in Suffolk Probate. It names wife Margaret, sons Samuel and James, sons-in-law Josiah Standish and Nathaniel Greenwood, daughter Abigaio, son Joseph (unmarried). The inventory is dated Aug. 27, 1669 and valued at £228 12s 9d. [4]

This chart may be erroneous according to Edith Bartley, Edward Lamb did marry a Margaret, but her surname may not have been French.

Ref: "The Great Migration Begins", Vol. 2, Robert Charles Anderson, NEHGS: Boston 1995, pp 1151-52, has a brief biographical sketch of Edward Lamb in which Anderson says that Margaret’s maiden name is unknown.

  • Samuel Allen, b. in England, came over with the first settlers of Boston in 1628. In 1635 it is recorded that he was a freeman in Braintree. His first wife, Ann, d. Sep 1641. His second wife was Mrs. Margaret Lamb, widow of Edward Lamb. His children were Samuel, Mary, James, Sarah, Abigail, and Joseph [7].
  • Braintree is the city where John French of FFA Chart #5 resided. Margaret could be tied with that chart.
  • 1669 The last will and Testament of Samuel Allen, of Braintry, in the County of Suffolke in New England was dated on August 2, 1669. Mentions sons Samuel, James, Joseph, Sons-in law Josiah Standish and Nathaniel Greenwood, daughter Abigail, and wife Margaret.

Abigail was less than 21 years old at the time of the will and Joseph appears to be the only son by Margaret. [7]
