About Margaret Walker
Margaret Walker (1953)
Margaret was the oldest of the Walker children born in Salt Lake City. She very early demonstrated her gifted abilities in mathematics and music. With her father she contributed to the writing of math formula with music as she took differential calculus. Hers was a family that had fun together and she especially liked roller skating and gymnastics. She enjoyed arts and crafts, made quilts and clothing, and invented interesting little gadgets. At age 14 she earned a perfect 100% average in calculus at Long Beach State University. She entered Caltech (California Institute of Technology) with the first group of 14 girls admitted. She transferred to Stanford University where she eventually enjoyed the school's summer program in Germany. Charles Schultz commended her for her book of cartoons using his Peanuts characters with dialogs developed from famous quotations. As a fine typist, she did work for business and law firms.
Margaret was a kind and sensitive person, friendly and fun to know, and always willing to help those in need. Her untimely death at 22 was a great loss to her family and all we who knew her and loved her.
