SIR MARMADUKE CONSTABLE MP, Known as the Little. Born in 1443 was in France under King Edward IV and at the taking of Berwick of which he was made captain. He shared with his four sons in the glory of Flodden, 1513, being then 71 years of age, his nephew Marmaduke Constable of Cliffe was possibly also there. His distinguished services were acknowledged in an autograph letter to him from King Henry VIII. He died in 1518, 10 Henry VIII, MI Flamborough.

He married:

1. Joyce Stafford, daughter of Sir Humphrey Stafford, and had issue.

2. Margery Fitzhugh, daughter of William Lord Fitzhugh and widow of John Melton of Swine, living 1511, s.p.

3. SIR WILLIAM CONSTABLE, of Hatfield., j.u.knighted at Flodden Field, Will dated 1551.

4. Sir John Constable of Kinalton, co. Notts., Esq., Knighted at Flodden Field.

Married:

Jane daughter and heiress of Henry Sothill, Esq., of Idle, co. York, by Joan, daughter of Sir Richard Empson, privy councillor.

1. Ann Constable, married to George Babington.

2. Catherine Constable, married to Cornelius Bevercotes.

3. Cecily Constable, married to Clement Oglethorpe.

5. Agnes Constable, married to Sir Henry Oughtred, Knt

6. Ellinor Constable, married, 1st John Ingleby of Ripley, 2nd after 28 August 1502, probably 1504-5 Thomas Berkeley, Baron Berkeley abt 1472-22 Jan 1532/3. She died 1525. By her second husband she was ancestor of the Berkeleys, Barons Berkeley, Descendants include also many other famous people of the 20th Century, including the Duchess of Alba and the actress Audrey Hepburn.
