Mari Hoon (1992 - 2020)
Mari (28), and Jéan Vosloo (25) were having a weekend getaway at the Kliphuis Guest House on Zuuranys Farm, outside Kareedouw. Their bodies were discovered in the bathroom by their friend on 26th April 2020.
The police conducted a judicial investigation to determine the cause of their death, because there were no visible injuries. A Toxicology report revealed the couple died due to carbon monoxide poisoning.
Police spokesperson, Sgt. Majola Nkohli, said the owner of the guest house, Kevin Pretorius (47), was arrested on Tuesday 6th April 2021. He is on trial on two charges of murder and appeared briefly in the Humansdorp Magistrate's Court. He was released on R1000 bail.
"Nkohli told Maroela Media that the case was initially investigated as a forensic inquest and then culpable homicide. "It is not clear what evidence came to light to bring a case of murder against him," he said. Further details will be announced during the court case."
