About Maria Catharina Bonawitz
Maria Catharina's parents were farming in Bethel Township, Berks County at the time of her birth.
At the time of her marriage, Maria Catharina's husband George Bonawitz owned three acres in adjacent Tulpehocken Township that he bought from his father's estate around 1793 under supervision of the Orphan's Court for the sum of 75 pounds. George was a tailor and worked as a laborer.
They sold the land in Tulpehocken in 1801 and moved to Dauphin County, near Berrysburg. Around that time, Maria Catharina's parents also moved to the area. In 1809, George and Maria Catharina bought 100 acres north of Berrysburg which George then farmed.
Together, George and Maria Catharina had six children.
