Maria Brunberg

Maria Peterson, a twin, born November 1698, married Christiern Bryn­berg, a recent immigrant from Sweden, on 2 July 1719. She was buried 31 July 1750 at the age of 51 years and 7 months. Her husband died “of a pitchfork” and was buried 28 March 1752 at the age of 68. They had ten children, six of whom lived to adulthood and married.

Maria Peterson, who was 20 when she wed 35 year old Christiern Brunberg, was the daughter of Matthias Peterson and Elizabeth Justis. Maria's paternal grandfather, Samuel Petersson was from Fryksande in Varmland, Sweden. He arrived on the "Oren" in 1654. Around 1665, he married Brita Jonsdottor. Maria's maternal grandfather, Johan Gustaffson (Justis), a King's soldier from the Kinnekulle area of Skaraborg, arrived in New Sweden in 1643 and, as reported elsewhere, in 1654 married Brita Månsdotter, daughter of Måns and Brita Anderson.

Born Halland, Sweden, Christiern, first appears Old Swede Church Records in 1714. the daughter of Elizabeth Justice and Mathias Peterson, Maria descends from Mans and Brita Anderson who arrived on the Kalmar Nyckel in 1640. Christiern and Maria Brynberg had issue, Elisabeth (2) Sven, Peter, Susanna, Matthias (2), John, Maria and Christina. Mathias born 1736 Anglicized surname. Wed Mary Anderson here 1766. Moved 1768 to North Carolina. sons Peter, Jacob, Joseph, Isaac, William, Samuel form the seven branches of the Brimberry family. "We praise thee o Lord for our many blessings and rich heritage."
