FAMILY NOTES: Maria and Lawrence came to America on July 8th, 1869, and brought their children with them (except Ellen who was born here). They bought the land just west of the St Francis church stands in Matagorda, Texas, and built their home. It was told that Ida was a baby during the long trip over and the rest of the family did without water to drink so that Ida could be bathed in fresh water. The 1870 census list Laurence BODAR, age 40, wife Mary age 42, children Frank-16, Robert-13, Sophia-7, Joseph (Zephrick)-4, and Fredericha (Ida) age 2, all from Poland.
