Maria Margaretha Hauser

"According to her memoir, she was born in Lampertsloch, parish of Hatten, district of Weissenburg in Alsace (France). Lost her father when she was three years old, and the family had much hardship. Her stepfather did not want her, so when she was 12 she served as a children's maid. In 1721 she married Martin Hauser, and in 1726 they left Europe for Pennsylvania. During the voyage she lost her first born child, Johann Martin, who was buried at sea. Moved to North Carolina in 1753. At her death at the age of 72 years, 2 months and 8 days, she left six sons and one daughter, 39 grandchildren and several great-grandchildren without counting those who are already with the Lord. Maria Schafer was born in Lampertsloch, France. Her father died when she was three years old, and her family felt hardship. Her mother married another man, but he terrorized her, and did not want his step daughter, Maria. Her threw her out during the coldest winter the land had seen in 100 years.

Maria secretly kept communication with her mother, who told her to stay close to God. She survived by begging neighbors. Eventually she became a childsmaid, and is how she got shelter.

Maria Schafer married Martin Hauser February 3, 1722 Riquewihr, Haut-Rhin, Alsace, France (German area and boundaries today make it France). From Woerth Lutheran KB church.
