Maria Hoffman, the "sixth child of Colonel Martinus Hoffman and Tryntje Benson, was born at Kingston, June 20, 1743, and was baptized there July 24, 1743 by Dominie Mancius; sponsors Harmen and Maria Rutgers.

"She married (by license issued by the Secretary of the Provence of New York), on July 18, 1768, in the Reformed Dutch Church at New York, the Rev. Archibald Laidlie, D.D. ...

"Mary (Hoffman) Laidlie is described as a lady of 'great moral and intellectual worth'. All accounts agree that her union with Archibald Laidlie was a particularly happy one. .She survived him for forty-six years. Old and full of days, and ripe in the Christian graces, she died in the summer of 1825. An affectng funeral discourse was pronounced in the Middle Dutch Church on June 12, 1825, by her grandson, Richard Varrick Dey, the pastor of the church of Greenfield Conn."

The children of Archibald and Mary Laidlie were:

  • Martin Laidlie, born 1769
  • William Laidlie, born 1770
  • Catherine Laidlie, born March 28, 1773 died January 20, 1819; married Anthony Dey on February 22, 1800 at the Reformed Dutch Church, New York, as his first wife.
  • Martin Laidlie, born 1774
