Citing Daniel Bly in his book FROM THE RHINE TO THE SHENANDOAH, VOL III.

”Maria Christina, like her husband was born in Germany. Her maiden name is unknown but is unlikely to be Rittenhouse. It is clear that Peter and Maria Christina married before coming to American, since their eldest son, Lewis (Ludwig) was also born in Germany. The evidence for this is that he went through a legal process of naturalization in 1743, in which he is described as having come from Germany. Lewis, married Mary Rittenhouse, daughter of Peter Rittenhouse of Philadelphia. Both Mary and Lewis are named in Peter Rittenhouse's will of 1748.
