Mrs. Tweed, Joice, Dies
JOICE - Funeral Services will be held Thursday for Mrs. Knudt (Marie) Tweed, 77, who died Saturday evening at the home of her son-in-law and daughter, Mr. and Mrs. Robert Latch, Clear Lake. She had spent the past three weeks there after being released from a Mason City hospital where she had undergone major surgery.
A prayer service will be held at the Anderson Funeral home at Lake Mills at 1:30 p.m. followed by the funeral rites at the Bethel Lutheran Brethren Church south of Joice with burial in the church cemetery. The Rev. H. 0. Engebretson of Lake Mills officiates.
Mrs. Tweed, the former Marie Bang, was born March 1, 1879, on the old Bang farm west of Joice, a daughter of Halvor and Marit Bang. On June. 3, 1898, she was married to Knudt Tweed and they settled on a farm southwest of Joice, where they lived for more than 50 years.
They celebrated their golden wedding anniversary in 1948. Mr. Tweed died a year later. Mrs. Tweed continued to live on their farm a few years before it was sold. She lived a few months at Lake Mills before returning to Joice recently.
She was preceded in death by her husband, one daughter, Mrs. Andrew (Henrietta) Almelien, a son in infancy; two sisters, Julia, and Mrs. Melvin (Gena) Lindflott. Surviving are three sons, Joseph Tweed and Melville Tweed of Lake Mills; Martin Tweed of Joice; three daughters, Mrs. Ancil (Hulda) Gilbertson, Lake Mills; Mrs. Robert (Evelyn) Latch, Clear Lake; and Mrs. Earl (Adene) Hagen, Garner; 24 grandchildren; 31 great grandchildren; six brothers. John, Oscar, Clarence, Herman and Henry Bang of Joice and Martin Bang of Lake Mills; and one sister, Mrs. Iver (Trena) Stensrud, Joice.
