About Marie Funfar
Mrs. Marie J. Straka
Miss Marie Funfar was born in Czechoslavakia on March 24, 1853. She was married to Joeseph Straka June 24, 1872 and in the spring of 1876 they emigrated to America; stopping for a while at Pittsburgh, Pa., and moving from there to St. Louis, Mo., where they lived for three years. They then moved to Minneapolis, where they lived for over thirty years; Mr. Straka working at his trade in the woolen mills.
Then children were born to this union, five of whom survive their mother.
In the year 1900 Mr. and Mrs. Straka moved to Hayward township and settled on the farm which continued to be their home until Mr. Straka's death the latter part of February, 1919.
After his death Mrs. Straka continued to live on the farm keeping house and looking after the interests of Arhtur and Julius, who worked the farm.
Mrs. Straka was a member of three Bohemian lodges of which she was active.
The death of her husband in 1919 and of the oldest son, Richard in 1921 had a telling effect on Mrs. Straka's health, and on May 23, 1929 she had a stroke of paralysis from which she never recovered. Gradually failing in health until the evening of May 23, 1930, the Lord called her home to glory from this world of pain, sickness and disappointment to the world of peace and enjoyment.
Mrs. Straka was a true and faithful wife, a kind and loving mother, a good neighbor and a true friend to all who were sick or in trouble. During her sickness she found great comfort in prayer. Many times and up to her death she prayed and found great comfort in it.
She was a strong believer in God and the home beyond this vale of tears.
She leaves to mourn her departed five children, Edward and Mrs. Emma Benson of Minneapolis, Mrs. Agnes Wolff of Glenville, Arthur and Julius at home; also 11 grandchildren, 3 great grandchildren, one sister, Mrs. Anna Pacovsky of Glenville, and one brother of Pittsburgh, PA.
Peace to her memory.
Dearest, loved one we must lay thee. In the peaceful grave's embrace, But thy memory will be cherished. Till we see thy heavenly face.
Card of Thanks The sympathy and attentions shown us during our sorrow and bereavement were so numberous and so faithful and the floral offerings were so beautiful we wish to take this method of thanking all our friends. Especially do we wish to thank the singers. Also Mr. O.D. Koontz and Mr. John Lukes for their words of comfort.
