John Hardinge and Mary Greene were married in Little Baddow, Essex, England in 1600[3].They continued to live there and in neighboring Boreham, the area where she grew up.They had eight children, at least three of whom--Robert, Abraham, and Elizabeth--emigrated to New England in the Puritan Great Migration.

Thomas Buttolph married by 1635, Ann Harding, daughter of John & Mary (____) Harding of Boreham, Essex. Ann died at Boston 10 Oct 1680.

Ann (Harding) Buttolph was sister of ROBERT HARDING (who came to Boston in 1630), Abraham Harding (who was in New England by 1640), & ELIZABETH HARDING (who came to New England in 1635 & married about 1644 Harry Bridgham).

Robert Harding, merchant and Mercer, born abt 1610 of John and Mary Harding of Boreham, Essex. Married 1) Philip Hammond, widow 2) Esther Wyllis, daughter of George 3) unknown. Returned to England before 17 October 1654. Died there (probably) before 1 March 1658.


Thomas Buttolph was also known as Thomas Buttall. He was born about 1603 in Raynham, Norfolk, England. On 7 July 1631 Thomas, married Anne Harding, daughter of John Harding and Mary Green, in St. Andrew's Church, Boreham, Essex, England. Thomas Buttolph and Anne Harding emigrated on 4 May 1635 from London, England, on board the Abigail, Capt. Hackwell, master, Anne's aged being listed as 24 years on the manifest and Thomas' as 32 years.
