Brief overview:

Marie (80), a frail pensioner, and owner of Villa Merwe Guesthouse in Paradyslkloof, Stellenbosch, Western Cape, was tortured and stabbed more than 60 times on 16th February 2017, by her caregiver and three accomplices. The perpetrators - Nicolize Geldenhuys (32) (victims carer), Romeo Hendricks (40), Enrico "Darkie" Malherbe (33), Andre "Zibby” Coetzee were members of the notorious '26’s Gang’ and high on Tik (Mandrax). After many court appearances - for aggravated robbery, Geldenhuys was sentenced to 15 years, while her three accomplices received 12 years. For murder, Geldenhuys got life, Hendricks 28 years, while Malherbe and Coetzee each received 23 years. The sentences will run concurrently, with the longest sentence of each person to be served. Verwey being stabbed more than 60 times was described by Judge Parker as an act of "savagery”.
