About Marion Ruthven

MARION RUTHVEN (aka MARIOUN RUTHVEN)

Marion Ruthven, here treated,is the daughter of William Ruthven, writer in Edinburgh. She was born before 25 June 1606, the date upon which her baptism was registered at Canongate near Edinburgh in Midlothian, Scotland. Her father's profession and her mother's name is not mentioned in her baptismal record but it seems likely, probable even, that she is the daughter of William Ruthven, afterwards Writer in Edinburgh, and Marione Clerksone. This couple are certainly known to have had a daughter named Marion. Testament Dative of Margaret Ruthven Her baptismal record reads as follows: "To Wam Ruthven in Canogate / D / N / Mario[n]e w / Wam Ogillvy [and] Jhone Younge". Marion Ruthven and her sister Bessie Ruthven gave up the testament dative and inventory of their deceased sister. Margaret Ruthven, who died unmarried and intestate in January 1645. They are not explicitly said to be the only children of William Ruthven who were still alive on this date, but they were evidently the only children with a legal right to make a claim on the moveable estate of their younger sister Margaret.
