About Marjorie Filmer

Bruce John Filmer, Filmer Family Notes Part One and Two (1300-1700) and Part Three (1600-1700), 1984 and Re-issued 1992, London, England, Family History Library, Salt Lake City. Part 1, p 28-38:
"In 1522 James Filmer had married Margerie Rayner, probably in the nearby parish church of Doddington as her family lived at a farm in the parish called 'Bamletts'. He was probably in his thirties when he married. Marjorie Raynor was the daughter of Robert Raynor (Stemmata Cantiana). The family were generally resident around the parishes of Doddington, Lenham, Milton and Kingsdown. Bamletts is recorded in the will of Thomas Raynor of Doddington, in 1484 (C.3.36) when it was left to his son Richard.
It seems likely, therefore, that Marjorie's father, Robert, was Richard's son. Neither Richard nor Robert Raynor, however, appear to have left wills. Thomas Raynor, himself, lived at a house called Justesses, which he left to his wife, Clemence. The main part of his lands in Doddington, Kingsdown and Milton were inherited by his son, Andrew and his wife, Julien, and he mentions other sons, Simon and John. Her family could have been descended from the Escheator of Kent in 1384, one Elias Raynor; there was a dispute over lands, some of which were at Milton, which then involved the Escheator and his son, Nicholas. At the time of Marjorie's marriage she was probably distantly related to a number of Raynor families in neighbouring parishes (and it is worth recording that an Elizabeth Raynor, daughter of Mathew Raynor, eventually married James Bunce of the Hall, alias Hall's Place - James died in 1606 leaving five sons and two daughters).
She is mentioned in the will of her son George, proved in 1582, wherein he left Amos Crouche £10 and the truckle bed on which my mother lieth.' After George's death she probably came to live with Raynold at Wychling, because it was there and not at Otterden or East Sutton, where she was buried in 1588.
It seems probable that after James' death Marjorie lived with son George. It is possible that George came to live at Herst. He died in 1582 and she then went to live with her son Reginald at Wichling. Her daughter, Benet died in 1584 and her son, Robert, the following year. Marjorie, herself, died at Wichling in 1585 (?1588) but was buried in the church of Otterden."
