About Mark Edwin Guest

I was simply a little Texas boy, born in Fort Worth, and later moved to Sweetwater, Texas at the age of 13. I went to MS and HS in Sweetwater, up until my Senior year, when my parents (John & Dean) felt the call of God to go into Missions. It wasn't but a few months later that we boarded a freighter in New Orleans, LA for Cape Town, South Africa, where we traveled and ministered for one year (1970-1971), covering most of that beautiful country.

We returned to the US only to be invited to assist at a school and orphanage in Port Au Prince, Haiti, where we again ministered for one year (1971-1972).

From there we moved to Dallas, Texas and managed a ministry called His House and Family, an alcohol and drug addiction refuge, where over a period of 2 years virtually every one who attended this ministry eventually enrolled at Christ For the Nations Institute. I graduated from there in 1973.

While at CFNI I joined a singing group called the Luminaires. I sang and ministered with this group for almost two years while attending the college. At the end of two years we accepted invitations to sing and minister for three (3) months in the US. At the end of those three months, we were already receiving invitations from people and ministries around the world to come and minister in their respective countries. We accepted and began what became two round-the-world tours spanning, once around the world each year, visiting 34 countries, from the Pacific, to Australia, the Far East, India, Africa, and Europe.

At the end of two years I moved to Monroe, Michigan having been invited to join the ministry of First Baptist Church of Monroe, with Pastor Joe Atkinson. I worked alongside Pastor Joe and ministered with him as the Visitation Pastor, plus heading up a small Youth Ministry of about 12 teens and post-teens. What a wonderful time leading and guiding those young people, some my age, and to see them grow and mature in the Lord, many of which later went to Christ For the Nations Institute.

While in Monroe, Michigan, a missionary couple visited the Church and while there they invited us to pray about joining their Missions Group, World-Wide Mission, out of Pasadena, California. They had need of someone who would live in Cameroon, W. Africa and open a Bible School there to train future pastors. After much prayer I accepted and we moved to a small village called Oku, in the NW Province. There was a house there for us, consisting of four (4) rooms: a large Living Room, a Bedroom, a Kitchen, and a small Pantry, for storage. We had no electricity, nor running water. We used gas or kerosene lanterns and brought water up from the local spring-fed stream.

After one month, a decision was made, by the Mission, not to start the Bible College. Needless to say, we were shocked. However, after spending a little over one year in the village of Oku, we moved to the nearby town of Banso (aka: Kumbo or Nso). Here I ministered in the local Secondary schools, as well as traveling the NW and the SW provinces preaching and teaching in the local churches. We lived in the NWP of Cameroon for three(3) years. It was during this time that our youngest child, David, was born. He was born at Banso Baptist Hospital.

In 1982 we returned to the US, where I enrolled at Evangel University, located in Springfield, Missouri, as a Biblical Studies major. At the end of three (3) years, I graduated, was approved as an Assemblies of God missionary and began itinerating in order to return to Cameroon and work in their Bible School, located in Bamenda, NWP, Cameroon. What a wonderful, enjoyable place to be. I taught and administrated at the school for three (3) years.

Upon our return to the US, we moved to Charlotte, NC, where I began working at Crown Christian Center (now: Lakeview) as the Bookkeeper, then shortly thereafter as Principal of their Christian School, where I continued to work for a number of years.

Sue & I later accepted positions in Christian schools, on Guam (a Pacific island) at Trinity Christian School, as Principal and Administrator; then in Bucharest, Romania, at the Universitatea Biblică din România, as Bible School Professors, then back to Charlotte to work at Walnut Grove Christian School as Principal.

After spending six (6) years at Walnut Grove, we once again embarked on another missions endeavor to Kampala, Uganda, East Africa, where we worked at Heritage International School. Sue taught Middle School and was the 6th Grade Lead Teacher. I started as the Secondary Principal; but was later transitioned into the Advancement Coordinator position where I assisted in revising all their Policies and Procedures Manuals; started an Alumni Association; and began the process of initiating Biblical Integration into all classes and subjects. Unfortunately our time was cut short and we returned to the US after one year. We are now back in Charlotte, NC.
